Portal server replication allows central information repositories to be replicated to remote deployed sites, and then on to mobile users in the field for remote SharePoint user access. Vital information and web applications can be accessed independently at each distributed 'tier', even when no network connection is present, with the content being rapidly synchronized later when bandwidth becomes available.
